Staircase Markets
Broome’s famous Courthouse Markets move to Town Beach for the natural phenomenon known as Staircase to the Moon.  With a great assortment of foods, crafts and entertainment, Staircase Markets are a lovely way to spend an evening in Broome when the light from a rising of a full moon reflects off the exposed mudflats in Roebuck Bay creating a staircase reaching to the moon. 
The Staircase Markets will follow the Opening Ceremony and Carnival of Nations on the first night of events.  So why not grab dinner, a great souvenir or artwork and watch this spectacular natural phenomenon. 

 

Saturday 28 August
The Rotary Club of Broome’s Dragon Boat Regatta
Dragon Boat racing in is an exciting community pastime that draws competitors and crowds to the shore of beautiful Town Beach in Broome each year. The excitement is palpable with the races called over loud speakers and the thrill of having local sporting, community and business groups participating in hard fought heats and finals. 
Rotary Club of Broome coordinates the annual event as part of the Shinju Matsuri Calendar of Events, with the regatta one of their major fundraisers.  It enables Rotary to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Opera Under the Stars 2010

Relationships Exhibition
The Relationships Exhibition celebrates a social history of the Kimberley. Using story boards, artefacts, photographs and audio visual media, you will gain an insight into the relationships formed by the Sisters of St. John of God with the people of the Kimberley.

The Roey Live, Local and Rockin’
The talent of Broome and the Kimberley are presented at a great live music venue in Chinatown for Live, Local and Rockin’ at the Oasis Bar, Roebuck Bay Hotel.

The Roey’s Live, Local and Rockin’ will follow the Float Parade and Mardi Gras.  So why not head over to Oasis Bar for a great night of local live music.

Broome Hash House Harriers
Join Broome Hash House Harriers for their annual Shinju Run.  Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are very welcome. 
Venue: Departs from Bedford Park and finishes at Matsos.

Wirlburu Art Exhibition - the annual St Mary’s Art Exhibition
Student art work display from St Mary’s College, Kindy to Year 12, including art, digital imaging and woodwork.  Experience the vibrancy and talent of today’s youth.

Tura New Music - Five Elements
Five Elements is a powerfully intoxicating cross cultural blend of music, percussion and dance, a unique fusion of South Indian Carnatic tradition, Western Jazz and Indigenous Australian didgeridoo. 
Rich in power, beauty and originality, the dynamic and breathtaking musical virtuosity displayed is “stunning, nothing short of spectacular” Daily Telegraph, Australia.
Featuring South Indian Mridangam player Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani with Indian Flauntist B V Balasai and Bharatanyatam dancerRajeswari Sainath, Australian artists, Adrian Sherriff (trombone/shakuhachi), Stephen Magnusson (guitar), Sandy Evans (saxophones) and Indigenous didgeridoo player Amos Roach.
Presented by Tura New Music and proudly supported by Total E&P Australia.  Broome performances presented in association with the Kimberley Performing Arts Council.

Kindred Spirits – Art Exhibition
An exhibition of contemporary work by renowned Kimberley artists Mark Norval and Donny Woolagoodja will focus on the relationship between two artists and their relationships to the Kimberley.

Reconciliation, love and other poems
A poetry book launch, poetry reading and photography exhibition by local Filipino woman, Deborah Ruiz Wall.

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) is excited to be presenting Big Screen, a travelling film festival which presents new and archival Australian films to audiences across regional and rural Australia.

New & Archival Australian films will be screened over three nights in two different sessions at Sun Pictures, the oldest open air picture garden in operation.

Broome Speedway – Shinju Speedway Stampede
All divisions of speedway – Juniors, Stockies, Quad Bikes, Production Sedans, Modifieds, V8 Super Sedans + Sprintcars will battle it out for the annual Shinju Matsuri title.  Drivers will travel from all over the state to compete in this Broome Speedway Club two day event.

Saturday 4 September
St Mary's College presents the FUN DAY OUT
The FUN DAY OUT is the St Mary’s College family fete.  Food stalls, free entertainment, raffles, picnic games, pearling themed Father’s Day races, children’s activities, jumping castles, Wirlburu Art Exhibition plus lots more fun for you to enjoy!
All are welcome to join us in a multi-cultural celebration of our community. 
The day will host a variety of stalls put together by the students and parents/carers of St Mary's. The Wirlburu Exhibition will be on display in the St Mary's H&T room and will be open to the public on the day of the fete

Father’s Day Kite Making
Dad’s and families, bring the kids down to Cable Beach for a Kite Making workshop with Shinju Matsuri Artistic Director Chris Hill.  Enjoy painting and creating and then fly your kite on the beach. 
The Father’s Day Kite Making will precede the Closing Ceremony.  So why not head over to the kite making and claim your spot early on the amphitheatre for an evening of live music, performance and fireworks.
