Dragon Boat Regatta

The ‘Pindan Labour Solutions’ Dragon Boat Regatta is the Rotary Club of Broome’s major annual fundraising event and each year it attracts a strong field of competitors and hundreds of spectators.

The regatta will offer a full day’s entertainment for all ages. Spectators will be able to share the competitive spirit by entering either junior or senior tug-of-war competitions. There will be a raffle with some great prizes on offer and food and drinks will be available at the beach from the Rotary Club Bar (no BYO alcohol please), the Lions’ Sausage Sizzle or from Town Beach Café.

The races will be preceded by the “dotting” of the dragons’ eyes, a short ceremony designed to “wake up” the dragons and bring luck to the competing teams.

Teams
Dragon boat teams can consist of up to 22 members, with a maximum of 18 in the boat for each race, comprising 16 rowers, a drummer and a sweep. Each team must also include at least four female members. Organisers are confident of attracting a full field of 16 teams for this year’s event. A training/practice day will be held prior to race day – so whether your team is new to dragon boat racing or not, you will have an opportunity to get in shape for the regatta. Avoid missing out on this exciting event by registering your team as soon as possible.

The entry fee is $400 per team (approximately $20 per person). Limited number of places always fills fast. Entry forms, race rules and conditions of entry and further information can be downloaded from http://broomerotary.org.au/
