Carnival of Nations & Float Parade
The Carnival of Nations & Float Parade showcases Broome’s multiculturalism in a colourful procession of flag bearers, floats, vehicles and traditional and contemporary culture performers.
Community members are invited to bear the flag of their nation or lineage and adorn themselves in national dress whilst community, business and interest groups construct floats and decorate vehicles to take part in the Street Parade. Following a planned route of the streets of Chinatown, onlookers line parks and pavement cheering and applauding their favourite floats. The party then continues into the night with Mardi Gras.
The Carnival of Nations and Float Parade is an opportunity to encourage tolerance, understanding and mutual respect between locals, new arrivals and the ethnic and cultural communities in Broome.Date: Saturday 10 September 2011 following on from the Opening Ceremony.
