Carnival of Light / Staircase to the Moon Markets

A new addition to the Shinju Matsuri Calendar of Events is the Carnival of Light.

When the light from arising full moon reflects off exposed mud flats creating a staircase reaching to the moon the voices of children, community, indigenous and local musicians and fire dancers will rekindle the traditional stories of Broome. Light sculptures depicting mangrove animals and pearl luggers with the light from hundreds of lanterns will light the night. The Carnival of Light works with visual artists and musicians to capture Broome in light, reflection and song. After the Carnival of Light celebrations stay on to enjoy Broome’s famous Staircase Markets. A great opportunity to enjoy dinner, buy a great souvenir or art work and watch the magnificent phenomenon that is ‘Staircase to the Moon’.
